SK Gaming interrupted Meet Your Makers' winning streak by triumphing in the ESL Major Series final. In recent times SK Gaming had lost ground to the Makers, as the latter was victorious in the Clash of the Ancients and Dota-League engagements. Lineup issues probably played a major role back then and with the addition of a world class player Sergio "ARS-ART" Revin, as well the talented Mikael "'hailo" Grinsvall, a change for the better was widely expected - assuming the team could still run smoothly despite the entry of a foreign player and all the subsequent difficulties.
This match shows that the lineup is in fact working as intended. Jonathan "Loda" Berg already mentioned this in yesterday's Dota-League interview and this match was proof: the team has the right feeling and having a Russian player in a full Swede lineup not only didn't create any teamplay issues but also opened new horizons and brought a lot of new opportunities and strategies.
On the other hand, the performance of Meet Your Makers was flabby; they didn't play as good as they usually do and both games weren't even close to the level of amusement we normally see in a SK vs MYM exhibition. Therefore we have to wait for future matches to unbiasedly debate on which team is superior.
At any rate this victory is clearly a good sign as it proved that SK Gaming can once again make good use of their idle capacity and peacefully concentrate on higher and higher targets as their hard work keeps paying off.
"We played the way we liked to today," commented Jonathan "Loda" Berg, "and it felt really good to show everyone that the new lineup we have works and it's gonna become even better.
"We were really happy with the picks which suited our playstyle and we executed our strategy in a really good way! MYM was not that impressive today so the games were not as close as I would have hoped but I'm looking forward to the next games vs them already."
Jonathan played Bristleback in game one: a hero that, as he stated even in the aforementioned Dota-League interview, can easily decide a match outcome. Worth mentioning is also the Netherdrake vs Silencer middle lane, an appealing fight between two heroes that were largely picked in the past but rarely find room in tournament matches anymore. "Caramon [SK Gaming manager] said it was nostalgic, and it sure was," commented Joakim "Akke" Akterhall. "In the old days it was like always viper vs silencer in the middle."
Sergio played Slayer in game one, together with Erik "Bogdan" Olsson (who played Sand King both times and recovered from the 3-15 score in game one with a 21-9 in game two), and supported Jonathan's "ricing" Spectre in game two with a Shadow Priest. Replays and complete lineups are available in the match details page.
SK Gaming will now continue the hard work, refining their teamplay and keeping improving, looking forward to upcoming challenges and - hopefully - new achievements.
