Another ESL Pro Series season is almost over and it's the 12th already. Today the final playday for this season is being played except for one match which is being played on Friday as Intel Friday Night Game.
The teams for the finals were already determined a week ago. With two teams attending only a few people would have guessed before. Faculty's new team ,consisting of the former ID-Gaming players chrizzo, gerdi and b4d together with shiddy and Frigh, are currently first placed. Most experts saw them fighting for the 4-6th rank. Even though they lost their first match against hoorai it was one you won't forget in the ESL Pro Series.
Faculty lost the first round on de_nuke as Counter-Terrorist and then defused the bomb through the roof in the second round. Ulrich "FlyingDJ" Schulze of ESL-TV cut that scene out and we also had a newspost containing the video.
Shortly after that they managed to beat current champion Team Alternate and also Extreme Masters champion, mousesports. Looking at the season they are now in a deserved first spot and will face hardware4u tonight. Hardware4u also had an average season mostly losing to the favorites only and are now ranked 11th which means they have to play the relegation playoffs. Still, winning today if hoorai loses their match, could get them out of there.
Champions, Team Alternate, will take on a-Losers in their last match which will most likely be the last match for a-Losers in general. Alternate slacked during the season and had some quite weird interviews of different players telling about the unsatisfying situation. But their will to be the first team doing a hat-trick was probably bigger and they will be able to defend their title.
On the other side, a-Losers also had a quite good season but their motivation dropped week after week due to the organisation not being able to fulfill their obligations and promises. The players did not receive money as it is stated in their contract. Still, considering that and the history of the players as they know each other for a very long time, except Burak 'coLLy' Dogramaci, they played a great season.
Probably the last interesting match is between former finals attendant TBH and pod. TBH didn't seem to get the rounds they needed to secure a finals spot, being tied twice against a-Losers and also mTw on a recent IFNG. TBH also managed to beat Team Alternate but this form didn't seem to carry on and now their opponent pod will be the last finals participant.
Pod were already attending the finals in Season 10 but weren't able to reach them in Season 11 but after recruiting Johan "rappy" von der Aue and Linus "beist" Gubenis they played a pretty good season. Although they lost to all three finals participants they are not to be underestimated as the team still consits of some experienced players. Playing against TBH won't be easy and they should also be preparing for the upcoming final event so you can look forward to some exciting matches.
