In the 8-player single elimination bracket stage, AKAWonder faced off against one of France’ best players,
Un33D. The series was very close, going to all 5 games. In game 5 AKAWonder’s paladin deck faced off against the Frenchman’s hunter and was able to outlast him with the help of some zombie chows and shieldbots to get through the hunter’s strong early game. With the win, AKAWonder advanced to the semi-finals against
TiddlerCelestial, currently the #1 ranked player in the world.
AKAWonder got off to a very strong start pulling ahead 2-0 and had only his control paladin deck left that had to win just one game. TiddlerCelestial won game 3 handily with his patron warrior deck. Game 4 was very close but Tiddler pulled it out in the end with a doomguard + power overwhelming combo. With the series tied up at 2-2, it all came down to our Spanish player's paladin deck vs Tiddler’s druid. After a great Harrison Jones play drew 3 cards for China’s pride, the game was pretty much over as AKAWonder wasn’t able to recover from the card disadvantage. Tiddler took the win with a double savage roar combo a few turns later.
Tiddler eventually went on to take 1st place in the tournament in another grueling 5-game match against
Dog, netting himself $12,500 and 100 Hearthstone World Championship Points. With AKAWonder’s 3rd-4th place finish he’ll receive $5,000 and 20 Hearthstone World Championship Points. Congratulations to him and all the rest of the SK Gaming players who played tremendously in one of the biggest tournaments of the year!
