The final eight teams will take stage in the MGM Grand Arena today to kick off the playoffs of DreamHack Masters Las Vegas 2017.
Our Brazilian Counter Strike division will take on NaVi in the last quarter-final later tonight. Quarter-final stage: Best of three match
25-22 (5:10; 10:5) (in OT: 10:7) on Mirage
16-7 (13:2; 3:5) on Train
1st map Mirage:
In the first pistol round
Fernando 'fer' Alvarenga gathered a lot of information by pushing mid but the team could not convert the map control into a successful round. Our players quickly lost control of the first half and
Marcelo 'coldzera' David showed that he is not a machine but human by going into James Bond mode, as he dropped to a 0/0/7 KD. Despite of the slow start, there were a few bright spots like some solid eco-round executions and a strong performance by fer. As the game went on, Coldzera also bounced back and played like usual. The final score of the half was 5:10 and
Gabriel 'FalleN' Toledo and company were ready for a comeback.
After picking up the final two rounds of the first half, the Brazilians got in a groove and were able to decide the following pistol round for themselves. Based on that, the game got tied up at ten. In the ensuing round, a fast A-push was denied by the Ukrainians and both competitors started a brawl to trade round after round. Each side won a couple of force buys, the matchup derailed into a complete skirmish and ultimately went into overtime. This playstyle benefited fer, who finished the first map with a KD of 40/35 and carried the whole squad during some periods of the match. In overtime history repeated itself. Rounds got handed back and forth and the game went into triple overtime, where we finally were able to complete the comeback and decide the first map in our favor.
2nd map Train:
The moral boost of the win in overtime could not get carried over to the next map right away, as the first pistol round was lost again. Thanks to three beautiful one-deags by
Marcelo 'coldzera' David, the game stood tied at 1:1 and quickly developed into our favor. The Brazilians executed their usual ct-dominance on Train, only lost one more round and expanded their lead to 13:2 at the end of the half. Fallen hit insane shots,
Joao 'felps' Vasconcellos was at the top of the scoreboard at the half and all five players put up a nearly flawless team effort during the first fifteen rounds.
NaVi shortly rose back up after winning the first three rounds, but lost the two following encounters. Fighting off ten match points was too much of an order and the semi-final entrance of our team was assured with the end-result of 16:7.
Check back tomorrow when our Counter Strike division will try to win its first title this year. In order to do so they will have to beat
