Quarter-final stage: Best of three match
16-12 (8:7; 8:5) on Cache
16-6 (10:5; 6:1) on Overpass
1st map Cache:
The highly anticipated clash of these two titans began on Cache, a map our opponent rarely plays. The first round came down to milliseconds. Our men got the plant on the A side but
Marcelo 'coldzera' David was only able to kill the defusing player right after he prevented the bomb from exploding. We still won the following round but instantly gave up the next one. Our team caught the reigning ELEAGUE Major Atlanta 2017 champions off guard on a hard eco B-rush and tied the game with two successful executions. At the score of 3:3, the money of the opposing side was broken and two additional victorious rounds were the result. The counter terrorists fought back but our CS:GO division had a bolstered economy and things went back and forth. After a slow start to the game, the star of Astralis,
Nicolai 'device' Reedtz, unfortunately woke up, got a 4K with just seven HP left and took out our AWPer
Gabriel 'FalleN' Toledo at the beginning of the following round to carry his team to the tied scoreline of 6:6. In the remainder of the first half, he kept being unstoppable and was the deciding factor that led to the 7:8 halftime score.
The second half started in a similar fashion like the first one did. It came down to the timing of the defuse and again it was not in our favor, as the bomb exploded a second before
Fernando 'fer' Alvarenga was able to defuse it. On the back of the lost pistol round, the score quickly crumbled down to a 7:13 deficit. After giving up five consecutive rounds, our men finally picked up a point. Two more victorious rounds finally led to a broken economy for Astralis. Furthermore, our players reduced their deficit to 12:14 thanks to insane clutches by
Gabriel 'FalleN' Toledo and
Joao 'felps' Vasconcellos. However, in the final stretch of the first map, the Danes faked out our men for a B-take, got to match point and because our boys could not afford much utility, they had to submit the first map as the outcome was 12:16.
2nd map Overpass:
The second map got off to a better start than the first. Our Brazilians finally won a pistol round and jumped out to a 3:0 lead. Once Astralis was able to buy full utility they won their first round. We quickly restored the old margin but our players lost the following round and found themselves with almost no money to buy utility.
Gabriel 'FalleN' Toledo and his counterparts still decided to force-buy but failed to pick up the round which led to the tied scoreline of 4:4. Almost every round came down to nuances but the Danes were on the better end of most of them.
Gabriel 'FalleN' Toledo lost too many AWP-duels versus
Nicolai 'device' Reedtz. During the whole quarter-final,
Nicolai 'device' Reedtz killed our in game leader ten times with his sniper rifle, while
Gabriel 'FalleN' Toledo only eliminated him twice with his AWP. After fifiteen rounds, our players found themselves with their backs against the wall as the halftime score was 5:10.
The beginning of the second half did not inspire any hope. Our CS:GO division did get the bomb down but got taken apart during the retake. The following force buy did not come to fruition and the ELEAGUE Major Atlanta 2017 champions did not show weakness nor mercy. The opposing side quickly boosted their lead to 15:5 and had ten consecutive match points.
Gabriel 'FalleN' Toledo and his teammates finally picked up a round but the opposing side did not allow any comeback attempts and showed why they are the title defenders by eliminating our team from the competition in a convincing 2-0 manner.
