Third time is the charm they say and the old saying proved true for our Clash Royale team this past weekend! After falling short at the last hurdle in CRL EU's first season in 2018 and CRL West Spring season earlier this year, we finally earned the trophy in the playoffs. But let's take a step back and see how we got there!
With coach
Ricardo 'KValafar' Gonçalves's help,
Morten 'Morten' Mehmert,
Samuel 'xopxsam' Klotz,
Sergio 'SergioRamos:)' Eduardo Ramos and the new addition
Javier 'Javi14' Gutierrez showcased an almost impeccable performance throughout the whole season. While in previous ones we usually had a slow start, this time we came out swinging straight out of the gates. Morten and Sam were unstoppable in the 2v2, while Javi and Sergio were picking up the 1v1 duties in King of the Hill for 5 straight weeks in a row. With our 10 wins, a first seed in the playoffs and consequentially a spot at the world championship were already secured. That made our coach decide to hide our best strategies for the playoffs and we ended up dropping the last game of regular play which denied us the perfect season.
As it turns out he made the right call. We came into the playoff finals where we ended up facing Team Liquid (who we lost the final in the spring season to) with a perfect preparation, and a fresh mindset and tactics. Sam and Morten were once again victorious in 2v2, followed by a 1v1 win for Javi. Sam barely lost his 1v1 set which kept Liquid in the game but only until Morten took the stage once again. Our longest standing player was the one who put the trophy which had been alluding him until now in his and his teammates' hands.
CRL West Fall Season Final: SK > Team Liquid - 3:1
Congratulations to our hard working team, we're so proud their efforts have finally been rewarded! And to all the fans who have supported us in the last three seasons of CRL but especially in this one - thank you!! Next stop - the world championship!
