Pistol round: Ramp Sneak Attack
SK|Robban puts the tactic into motion with a well placed smoke into the end of ramp hall. Using a smoke at the end of the hall would mask their positioning and deter Fnatic from peaking or playing as aggressive. With SK|Zet holding his position in the hall the rest of the team regroup, after flashing for their entry they commence their attack at ramp. Fnatic with strong defensive techniques and fast rotation win them the round.
Eco Round: Slow Outer
SK is now forced to save since they didn't plant or win the round. Playing their eco quite slow having only glocks and no armor, they are in a much weaker state and are more careful as they work outside. Attempting to play off each other’s positioning and doing as much damage as possible, they soon lose the round to the power of fnatics rifles on this eco round.
Eco Round 2: 3-2 Eco Split Inner
This round SK had just enough money to buy flashes and have enough money for the next gun round. They grouped together two at squeaky door and three to the hut. SK|Zet lead the attack and first to start this chain reaction of flashes. He was able to get his flash off but also ran into some trouble. Fnatic|Gux having the advantage with his defensive positioning was able to take down two of SK instantly and as the rest of his team rotated the round was shortly over.
Terrorist Gun Round Example 1: Full Nade Ramp Attack
SK|Allen: Smoke+Nade Ramp, Delay Attack Ramp.
SK|Walle: Flash Ramp from Radio.
SK|Zet: Nade, Rush Ramp.
SK|Tentpole: Support Ramp Rush.
SK|Robban: Watch Flank, Support Ramp.
This was the first gun round for SK fully equipped with rifles, armor and nades. Together they get three kills attacking ramp room losing two of their teammates in battle. They decide quickly to go back towards inner as a mid round fake but are picked off instantly by Fnatic|Gux who was waiting for the retreat. After being picked SK put their strengths back towards ramp but are shot down by Fnatic|Carn.
Terrorist Gun Round Example 2: 3-2 Outer To Inner Attack
SK|Allen: Smoke Outside, Attack Inner.
SK|Walle: Flash From Squeaky Door, Inner Attack.
SK|Zet: Flash Outer, Attack Inner.
SK|Tentpole: Flash Hut or Squeaky Inner Attack.
SK|Robban: Watch Flank, Flash Hut Attack Inner.
This is the second gun round; SK take a different approach of attack after falling out in their last attack. In this tactic we have three members of SK going inner and two outer to pinch the upper bombsite. Fnatic is known for their aggressive pushes at ramp. SK had one of their members picked off early by Fnatic|f0rest pushing at ramp. SK was able exchange in frags taking out Fnatic|Dsn. They then repositioned for their attack inner, taking squeaky and outside to the inner bombsite. SK|Tentpole entered the site through squeaky taking one out from the rafters, as he fell to the next opponent
SK|Allen was then able to pick up the last two frags to win the round.
As their T-Side continued SK used similar variations of these tactics into the rest of the half, offsetting every so often to a less aggressive setup; using fnatics aggressive defense to their advantage. SK played well against Fnatics aggressive defensive tactics having a lot of close rounds, they won only 4 rounds as terrorist ending the first half 11-4 Fnatic.
De_Nuke - Counter-Terrorist
Pistol round: 1-3-1 Inner
For CT pistol SK had their defense stacked for the upper bombsite, playing only one in ramp and one outside to spot for any type of advances. This round played out well for SK, Fnatic went outside in full stride reaching for the lower bombsite. Kills were exchanged between both teams; it was soon a 2v1 situation in favor of SK. They were able to change their defensive positioning quickly and effectively, giving them control of this crucial pistol round.
Anti-Eco: Standard 1-2-2
SK had the advantage in this round since they were able to win the pistol round; this gave them a little extra cash to purchase better armor and rifle. Team Fnatic put in motion an ultra aggressive attack at ramp using a single flash they were able to throw off SK just enough to exchange frags. Fnatic quickly had their hands on a rifle nearby which resulted in a lot more frags than necessary, in close battle this round ended in Fnatics favor.
Counter-Terrorist Gun Round Example: 1-1-3 Ramp
SK|Allen: Rafters/Ramp, Floating Position .
SK|Walle: Outside, Support Inner.
SK|Zet: Ramp Support.
SK|Tentpole: Floor, Defend Inner.
SK|Robban: Ramp, Peek Ramp Hall.
This example is taken from the fourth round and very first gun round of SK's CT side. SK started their defense using Standard 1-2-2 setup. Early in the round Fnatic|Carn was able to make his way into vents which triggered SK to play towards the ramp, assuming they might have put bomb in the vents to lower. SK|Zet rotates lower from his ramp position and SK|Allen quickly assumes his new position in ramp. Their ability to quickly assume their opponents next move win them this round.
Counter-Terrorist Gun Round Example 2: Standard 1-2-2 Variation
SK|Allen: Rafters, Defend Inner.
SK|Walle: Flash/Smoke Outside, Defend Inner.
SK|Zet: Defend Ramp.
SK|Tentpole: Flash Hut, Defend Inner/Ramp.
SK|Robban: Flash Ramp, Defend Outside/Ladder.
SK starts this round in a standard 1-2-2 setup. Fnatic show their first means of attack outside and swiftly SK change their defensive setups. SK|Zet and SK|Tentpole begin to play more aggressive into ramp hall as Fnatic begin to control outer. With the majority of Fnatic's players outside SK easily take control of lobby, SK|Walle playing inner, reads the offense and goes lower through vents to outside to maintain control of the lower bombsite. The shots begin to fire as each player takes their role exchanging frags; this round becomes a close 1v1 with each player having only 10hp each. Fnatic|Carn is able to hit one of his bullets before SK|Robban and SK lose the gun round.
This half ended rather close as each round being played built up suspense, the players battled in 1v1 and 1v2 situations throughout the remaining half. Unfortunately SK were unable to win as many rounds as they wished, Fnatic took this first map and won 16-10.
De_Inferno - Terrorist
Pistol round: 1-4 Apartments
SK start their pistol with SK|Robban peeking middle for any aggressive advances. The rest of the team make their way into apartment halls as they reach the stairs, Fnatic|f0rest is caught pushing. SK immediately begin to push back in retaliation and are caught in the fire of Fnatic|Gux and Fnatic|Dsn.
All of SK are put to a stand still and are taken out, Fnatic easily take the pistol round.
Eco Round: 1-4 Split
SK start their eco in a defensive setup with three mid, one alternate mid and one apartment. They use this setup to have as much control as possible to the major choke points. They soon realize Fnatic isn’t playing aggressive and are able to go into their second part of their tactic. SK split the A site, one mid and four apartments, which was almost identical to their pistol. Once they are spotted they begin to play very aggressive and attack the A bomb site. Fnatic|Gux is able to take out three in apartment and Fnatic|f0rest take out the remaining two as they approach the site.
Eco Round 2: 1-2-2 Alternate Middle
Here we see that SK play this round heavily into alternate middle, four alternate middle then two breaking off into the blue door. Fnatic are playing aggressive, flashes and smokes to middle and alternate middle. Fnatic|f0rest pushes window and is only able to take out one of SK before he is gunned down himself. SK regroups towards banana but are unable to get any further due to Fnatic|Get_Rights impeccable aim; he is able to take out three before he is dead. Fnatic|Carn finishes the last member of SK in the end to win the round.
Terrorist Gun Round Example: 4-1 A Split
SK|Allen: Hold Apartments, Delay Apartments.
SK|Walle: Defend Middle, Clear Banana, Setup Mid.
SK|Zet: Spot Window Push, Setup Mid Attack.
SK|Tentpole: Hold Alternate Middle, Setup Mid.
SK|Robban: Hold Middle, Clear Banana, Setup Mid.
This example is taken from the very first gun round, SK have two hold and support middle while the other three maintain the choke points in alternate middle. As the round progresses SK work their way up into middle while SK|Allen delay his attacks on apartment. SK smoke and flash their way into the A Site taking all four of Fnatic down, leaving Fnatic|Carn remaining alive. The round is now in a 2v1 situation both SK|Walle and SK|Allen having each 50hp left and Fnatic|Carn with 50hp aswell the favor is still in SKs Hands. Fnatic|Carn with his well timed movement and shots is able to take out both of SKs remaining players and win his team the round.
Terrorist Gun Round Example 2:
SK|Allen: Hold Apartments, Delay Apartments.
SK|Walle: Distract Nade Banana, Attack A.
SK|Zet: Watch window room for push, Attack A.
SK|Tentpole: Hold Alt Mid, Flash A then Attack.
SK|Robban: Watch Mid Crossing, Attack A.
Similar to the previous gun round, SK get into defensive positions early in the round to maintain the main choke points. After ensuring the control of the choke points four of SK get into position middle. Flashing their entry they safely make it up into middle, they then flash into the right side of the site and unleash their full attack. SK is separated and picked off one by one as they enter the A bombsite; Fnatic win the round.
As terrorists SK finish the half 4-11; SK continued to attack the A Bombsite on their gun rounds but are taken out most of the rounds. On the late eco rounds SK would attack B. Fnatics new roster is known to have a very strong as Counter-Terrorists which has been shown on both maps.
De_Inferno - Counter-Terrorist
Pistol round: Pistol round: 1-3-1 CT Stack
SK|Allen: Peek Mid from CT Spawn, Retake.
SK|Walle: Push Out Banana and Hold.
SK|Zet: Hold Right CT Side, Prepare Retake.
SK|Tentpole: Scout Mid, Watch Apartments.
SK|Robban: Hold CT Spawn, Prepare Retake.
This pistol was the most important round for SK in the grand finals, they lost so many rounds on their terrorist half that if Fnatic were to win this round SK would have very little chance of winning. SK play this CT pistol carefully with four stacked CT Spawn and for retake and SK|Walle spotting down banana. Fnatic put all their players into the halls for a delayed rush, Fnatic take the site but are outplayed by SKs retake; they get all their necessary shots and win the round.
Anti-Eco: 2-1-2 Aggressive Apartment
Over eager after winning pistol SK play ultra aggressive, pushing two apartments while SK|Walle fast peeks mid. SK|Zet and SK|Tentpole are prepared for Fnatics aggressive eco attack at B, prepared with flashes and smokes. Fnatic do not go B they choose to fast split A and are able to take middle with Fnatic|Dsn distracting both players in apartment. SK are slowly taken apart by Fnatics deagle eco and lose the round.
Counter-Terrorist Gun Round Example: 3-2 Strong Middle
SK|Allen: Hold Right Middle.
SK|Walle: Spot Middle, Distract.
SK|Zet: Peak Banana.
SK|Tentpole: Prepare Flash for B Attack.
SK|Robban: Hold Left Middle.
SK play this round very smart having two of their players (SK|Robban/SK|Allen) each side middle hidden from any major peaks; they both turn backwards to dodge any flashes while SK|Walle takes most of the attention to him. Fnatic flash and attack middle from alternate middle rushing the A Site Fnatic is able to out maneuver SK even with their clever setup battling for frags. SK|Tentpole and Fnatic|Carn play in a 1v1 that is eventually won by Fnatic.
Counter-Terrorist Gun Round Example 2: 3-2 Middle (Awp)
SK|Allen: Prepare Flash for Middle.
SK|Walle: Pick Middle Awp.
SK|Zet: Peak Banana.
SK|Tentpole: Prepare Flash for B Attack.
SK|Robban: Prepare Nade for Middle.
SK play middle aggressively with SK|Walle picking middle with support for SK|Allen and SK|Robban. SK|Zet and SK|Tentpole setup a distraction for Banana, one peaking into banana and one holding a flash. Fnatic continue to take middle and apartments as their standard tactic, using their well placed flashes integrated with teamwork they’re able to pick off SK one after the other; Fnatic win the round and the event.
This half turned out very poorly for SK losing all rounds but one. SK setups proved to work well but the players weren’t getting enough frags to win against Fnatics new lineup. SK lose the last map of the grand finals 16-5 to Fnatic.
SKs setups, communication and teamwork were above the rest of the competition which lead them to the Grand Finals. After two overwhelming matches against Fnatic the tournament came to an end. Fnatic proved that they were the better team after all, SKs results were not as promising as they had hoped. SK lost 16-10 on de_nuke and 16-5 on de_inferno placing them 2nd at the KODE5 2009 Global Final event.
