When Manuel 'Grubby' Schenkhuizen was placed in group with Xuwen 'InFi' Wang, June 'Lyn' Park and Jae Ho 'Moon' Jang in GomTV World Invitational last month, many predicted fierce fights down the road for him, but the Evil Genius made his advance look like a stroll in the park as he defeated all his group contenders in a convincing manner.
Grubby will be playing Group A runner-up Dae Hui 'FoV' Cho two days later. Odds are leaning towards the Dutchman in this match and it doesn’t come from nowhere. Except from the fact that Grubby came out on top in most cases in their previous meetings, his 77 per cent win ratio against Undead players is staggering compared to FoV’s 40 per cent vice versa.
Contrasting form between the duo also leads many to believe the Netherlands international has a lock on his presence in the final. Grubby has lost no more than three matches in the past month and was barely edged by Pedro 'LucifroN' Moreno Durán in the final of Blizzard Season 7 tournament Europe Finals last weekend, whereas FoV has won only five out of 12 in the meantime despite two in the invitational.
However, Grubby knows FoV well enough to see his merit through their days in Four Kings and various meetings in the space of five years. With limited time to prepare for the “incredibly important” match, Grubby indicated in his latest blog that he would make hay while the sun shines.
“FoV is definitely not one to underestimate for me. He's an incredibly brainy player who actually is very good against Orc, one of the best. He's beaten me in such tournament as WWI and ESWC so this is far from a walk in the park (more like a walk in the graveyard).
"I haven't got much time to practice (since it's in two days already) and I'm sure FoV's considered the possibility of me going through so he's had a lot longer. All in all a difficult opponent but an incredibly important match for me.”
