The third week of ESL's EPS Nordic season II brought about a promising fixture with two undefeated teams going head-to-head and the winner leaping to the top of the table.
In what turned out to be a close encounter with a handful of brilliant individual moments SK Gaming defeated Playzone.fi 16-12 on de_inferno.
After taking the pistol and all follow-up rounds SK Gaming started to get into their stride. The B bombsite saw the majority of the action until a swift change in tactics saw more approaches to the A site. Proving successful initially due to nice opening frags and forging an 8-2 scoreline, a dominating first half looked to be on the cards.
But Playzone.fi regrouped and reformed, and then began to find cracks in the SK A site pushes. Atte 'VIDI' Hyväkkä had a couple of stellar moments with a deagle to halt incoming attacks and combined with a surge in team resolve Playzone.fi managed to reduce the deficit to just three rounds heading into the second half.
The second half opened with SK Gaming again winning the pistol round as Counter-Terrorists but this time the Finns bought early, and locked down the next four rounds as their own. They were soon met with resistance, though, in the shape of Johan 'face' Klasson who picked up eight frags in two rounds defending the B bombsite. Prior to the Swedish barricade Playzone.fi managed to narrow the score from 9-6 to 11-10, and the game's momentum was riding heavily in their favor following some impressive attacks.
Thanks to the two rounds largely secured by face SK Gaming stood their ground and wrapped up the final few rounds to achieve their third win in as many games and the top spot in the league.
