A story about Koreans winning an event in a Blizzard game hardly feels like news at all. But Loaded were pushed all the way in Columbus despite starting with a 3-1 lead.
compLexity Gaming Red were their opponents after making their way through the lower bracket. They defeated Fnatic wow in the LB final in a convincing 3-0 style but after losing the winner bracket final originally, they had to start from 3-1 down in a best-of-11 series. Complexity started perfectly, bringing the score back to 3-2 with an unexpected twist. The team that had been running wizardcleave or RLD all weekend brought back the RMP setup that saw them beat Loaded (formerly Button Bashers) 4-0 last season.
Any repeat of that result was quickly put to bed as Loaded won the next game on Nagrand. They were too strong on Ring of Valor in the 3rd game as well, putting out too much pressure for Sodah to deal with. Now Loaded just needed one map to win the tournament but coL didn't lie down. They took back-to-back wins on Nagrand and BEM to bring the score back to 5-4.
But that was as close as they would get. On Dalaran again, Loaded finally got the elusive 6th round to put the game to bed. $9,000 USD in prize money as well as revenge for last year's humiliation is the prize for the Koreans who proved once again that you can never out them or RMP.
Final Standings
1. Loaded
2. compLexity Gaming Red
3. Fnatic wow
4. SK Gaming USA
As you can see, Fnatic had to settle for 3rd place after they were destroyed in the lower bracket final. They too proved to be the best in their comp, however, by beating SK Gaming USA earlier in the evening. The lower bracket semi-final ended 3-1 in favour of Woundman and co. SK reached Realz' target of top four but will probably be wondering what might have happened on another day.
