The first map was won in a fairly convincing fashion by the underdogs but the second map soon developed into a close affair. In the end kHRYSTAL and company managed to get into a flow and bulldozed fnatic down the stretch to knock out the Arbalet Cup Europe champions in 5th-8th place.
Fnatic 11:16 H2k Gaming (train - 7:8, 4:8)
H2k came straight out of gate hot as a pistol on the Terrorist side as they got to 5:0 before fnatic had scored a round. The lead then went to 7:2, with FYRR73 sitting on 14-5 on the scoreboard, but then fnatic mounted a run of their own. The 10th round saw f0rest with two AWP kills and the combo of dsn and THREAT winning the round by taking out kHRYSTAL who was facing a 1v2. fnatic then got rolling and their momentum carried them to a tied 7:7 scoreline. H2k managed to win the last round to go into their CT half with a very solid chance at the upset.
The Counter-Terrorist side began in fashion which suggested H2k were going to be a serious threat to fnatic in the series, winning the pistol round with two kills from pronax and Xizt apiece. fnatic gambled buying on the second round but niko and kHRYSTAL took their turn to rack up two kills each to push the H2k lead to 10:7 overall. Two fnatic ecos sandwiched by a two kill round from Xizt saw H2k hit 13:7 and fnatic looked unable to find any answers to how to attack the underdogs' defensive setup.
Three big kills from dsn at outer saw the favourites get back into the game and matter were helped by another successful push outer where cArn and GeT_RiGhT snagged a pair each. After an H2k eco the score was now a slightly more manageable 13:10 but fnatic would still have to work some magic offensively to steal the map. Instead the 14th round proved to be crucial for H2k as a 4v4 turned into a 4v3 for H2k thanks to niko sneaking through whitewalls, down the ladder and killing a fnatic player at popdog. Xizt's three kills ensured H2k went up 14:10. Again Xizt was the man of the moment in the 15th round, putting his team to map point with four kills.
fnatic snatched one back thanks to two from f0rest in the 26th round but the map was over in the very next round and H2k were headed into dust2 knowing they could be on the brink of pulling a major upset.
Fnatic 13:16 H2k Gaming (dust2 - 6:9, 7:7)
H2k started out the right way on dust2 as Terrorists as they secured the pistol round and then ran the score up to 4:0. In the 4th two entry kills from kHRYSTAL got H2k into B and the bomb planted so fnatic decided to save their weapons at A. Ending up trading a kill on GeT_RiGhT for one from dsn may have been a less than solid ending to the round but in the next the favourites came up with their first round to make it 4:1 H2k overall. Three kills from f0rest and two from GeT_RiGhT saw that go to 4:2 as H2k couldn't get into B.
Returning the favour niko contributed three kills and FYRR73 two as H2k broke B and made it 5:2. Four kills from THREAT at A, including a 1v1 won against niko pulled a round back for fnatic but the next swung right back to H2k and it was 6:3. A positive for fnatic came in the next round as they turned an eco into a won round thanks to a sneaky crossfire peek from GeT_RiGhT, with f0rest hiding in the shadows of B tunnels, and then cArn finishing off the H2k players headed A to make it 6:4. An H2k eco made it 6:5.
H2k's terrorist side was starting to look fairly mediocre but a three round run put them in position to potentially end the half 10:5. In the 12th niko pulled off a nice stealth move as he flanked through B, which was unoccupied, and then refrained from killing f0rest, who was facing the side of mid doors, instead waiting for GeT_RiGhT to run past too so he could kill both. By H2k had won the 14th round and gone up 9:5 kHRYSTAL had reached 17-7 on the scoreboard. fnatic clawed back the last round to go into their Terrorist half needing 10.
The pistol round went to fnatic as they attacked A and GeT_RiGhT provided two kills. After fnatic got the two H2k ecos, to make it a 9:9 tie, kHRYSTAL put up two kills as H2k defended A and won the round. The game was tied again after the 20th round as four kills from dsn allowed fnatic to take over the A bombsite. They took their first lead of the match following the H2k eco.
H2k began executing what would become the theme of their success on this dust2 CT half as they pushed lower B, catwalk and mid at the right times to tie up the game again at 11:11. fnatic took their final lead off the half in the next round to go up 12:11 but after that it was for all intents and purposes all H2k all the time. cArn found himself savingon the 24th round after more aggressive play from H2k killing his team-mates around catwalk and middle and thus began fnatic's money woes. The next round their deagles could do little at B and in the 26th round it was cArn who was wielding a deagle while the others held AKs. That round went to H2k thanks to two kills from pronax at A and f0rest having to save by himself.
A buy round from fnatic on the 27th round saw H2k hit match point courtesy of two kills from Xizt and fnatic's inability to contain H2k's aggression. fnatic got a momentary stay of execution in the 28th round as f0rest aced H2k at A, overcoming he and his entire team holding only galils. The killing blow came the very next round though as fnatic once again slowly worked up middle and catwalk and H2k pushed out at the right times with decisive aggression to win the round and game.
fnatic were thus eliminated from DreamHack Summer in the first round of the playoffs and H2k added a feather to the cap of their new lineup.
