SK Gaming's Shane 'rapha' Hendrixson has won the title that got away from him last year, defeating the man who took it from him in Edmonton, Tim 'DaHanG' Fogarty, 3-0. He dropped a total of 0 maps over the weekend en route to the win.
From the get-go DaHanG stormed out to a four frag lead on dm13, but rapha managed to slow the pace down while grinding down DaHanG's HP. After picking up a couple of kills the two were locked in a stalemate for around two minutes before an important battle at mega awarded a frag and control to rapha.
From then on rapha extended and maintained his lead, and finished off the map 12-6.
Aerowalk opened up much like dm13, though this time it was rapha who quickly put together the kills. DaHanG was trying to get himself back in the game but for his one frag rapha would score two, though the gradual damage infliction helped narrow the gap to two frags at one point.
Perhaps the most crucial part of the game occurred at red armor, with the scores at 9-7 DaHanG had a great opportunity to pick up the red and string together a couple of frags after that. But with 3hp remaining after a battle, rapha's railgun halted all plans for the EG player as he fragged DaHanG, which all but wrapped the game up for the world champion.
Again on the final map, Hektik, rapha pulled ahead and at one point sat pretty at 8-0. After a couple of errors however, DaHanG put together his own streak, controlling every item on the map and dragging the scoreline to 9-9.
The next big fight saw DaHanG enter with a 200/200 stack, but rapha managed to pick up the kill despite being in a much less healthier situation courtesy of smart dodging and pinpoint accuracy.
rapha then ran away with the game, finishing it 17-10 and securing the title that eluded him last year, as well as a slot at the IEM V World Championship Finals and $3,000 in prize money.
IEM American Championship Quake Live final standings:
