GSL Up & Down Matches are always bittersweet and drama filled. While the audience cheers for its favorite Code A players to place into Code S, the fall of favorites into Code A mutes the excitement. This season the rise of
Kyo-Seok 'Keen' Hwang,
Jong Hwan 'CoCa' Choi,
Lee-Seok 'aLive' Han,
Kim 'viOlet' Dong Hwan,
Jong Hyeon 'MVP' Jung, and
Choi Ji 'Bomber' Sung reinforces Code S prestige with their sharp Starcraft II skills while former heroes
Cho Won 'San' Kang,
Jonathan 'Jinro' Walsh,
Hyeong Ju 'Check' Lee,
Sang Ik 'TheWinD' Park,
Sung Je 'RainBOw' Kim, and
June 'Lyn' Park fall into Code A for next season.

Through every progression of the GSL Code S and Code A format the lines between the ranks seem to blur. Competition for prestigious Code S positions becomes fierce as the general level of skill players seem to display ever increases, and many top players who are indubitably deserving of Code S must drop into Code A as even more impressive players rise up in rank after making it past the notoriously difficult Code A qualifiers. Jong Hyeon 'MVP' Jung has famously spent a season in Code A, although he did take 2nd place in the Code A bracket and has risen once again into Code S after easily taking out
Seo-Yong 'Rain' Park 2-0, who proceeded to stay in Code S by shutting down Sung Je 'RainBOw' Kim.

Kim 'viOlet' Dong Hwan managed to make a very quick journey to Code S: GSL May is his first season qualifying into Code A, yet he easily placed into the top 8 and then Code S by defeating
Joon 'Kyrix' Han in an all zerg group.
Joon 'Kyrix' Han was able to hang on to his Code S position by knocking the oGs coach Sang Ik 'TheWinD' Park into code A.
Team MVP is making its mark in the GSL world as Kyo-Seok 'Keen' Hwang makes it into Code S as well, able to defeat
Ki-Soo 'TricKsteR' Seo, a dominant force during the Starcraft II beta.
Ki-Soo 'TricKsteR' Seo also saved himself from the nerve-wracking Code A round of 16 by knocking come-back hero Cho Won 'San' Kang down.
TeamLiquid suffered a blow as fan favorite Jonathan 'Jinro' Walsh continued a bit of a losing streak–after losing to both Jong Hwan 'CoCa' Choi and
Jung-Min 'Zenio' Choi.
Chris 'HuK' Loranger was, however, able to keep his position in Code S with 2 very decisive and quick wins over
Seong Won 'MMA' Mun.
The Code S and Code A have both become very prestigious labels as only those with undeniably high skill will be able to keep their positions. The unfortunate Code A participants will have to play exceptionally well in the intimidating Code A round of 32, where every player who loses their best of 3 series will fall out of Code A and have to battle through the so called "pool of sharks" known as Code A qualifiers, where so many hopefuls compete for 16 positions that each player must survive 5 or more rounds of best of 3 games in a single day.
