Fnatic were participating and were looking strong as they won their first match and then won their Semi Final. However after they won their Semi Final they were disqualified by the ESL.
The ESL comment was:
fnatic MSI played with 3 players from Germany, which is counted as German line-up.
fnatic MSI is disqualified."
As this was the EU qualifier which Fnatic were playing in, they were disqualified for using 3 German players. They were using 3 German players as they were missing usual player Enrique Javier 'xPeke' Cedeño Martinez. If xPeke had been playing then they would have been classed as an EU team.
While ESL were right to enforce the rule, i'd have to beg the question why they wasted the time to only enforce it after 2 matches? Especially as the team was confirmed at sign-up.
