The upper-bracket semi-finals at Copenhagen Games 2012 is now over, with some more unexpected events occurring.
SK Gaming took on
WinFakt in the upper-bracket semi-final. Starting on mirage, WinFakt opted for an A push in their pistol round but great defence by SK proved there was no entry as they took the opening pistol. Second round saw WinFakt retaliate with a deco and plant in A leaving SK thrown off guard and unable to retake, putting the score equal 1-1. The remaining rounds of the first half were exchanged equally seeing neither team getting more than a two round advantage, ending WinFakt with a 8-7 lead on terrorist side.
Second half saw WinFakt fire ahead after winning the pistol and the first four rounds to take a comfortable lead 12-7. Match point was shortly achieved for the Finns as the score hit 15-8. Final round saw SK gain entry into B site with the plant until the situation was a 1v1 between
aslak and
face who was on low HP. It was the Finnish AWP star however who managed to take down the Swedish viking with a USP to give his team the first map 16-8.
Train was the second map of the upper-bracket semi-final seeing the battle of Swedes vs. Finns. WinFakt took the pistol round starting on the easier CT side and continued their momentous play to take the opening five rounds. Sixth round saw SK gain entry into the inner bomb site and managed a successful plant with most men remaining, but WinFakt continued to prove to be the stronger side as they retook perfectly to defuse the bomb with just seconds remaining. The next four rounds went in favour of SK as they started to storm their opponents with full power, except it didn’t take long for WinFakt to get another round once again. First half ended in favour of the Finns for the second time with a score line of 9-6.
SK Gaming managed to take the much needed second half pistol and the opening three rounds to even the score at 9-9. At 10-11 it came down to a 1v1 between
GeT_RiGhT and
aslak with the latter managing to get the bomb plant. Alesund quickly retaliated to eliminate aslak and defuse the bomb to give his team a two round lead at 12-10. It didn’t take long however for the Finns to regain their stamina in the game to take the match point 15-13. Final round saw
aslak once again prove his worth as one of the best AWPers as his defended the inner bomb site with WinFakt taking down every member of SK to take the upper bracket semi-final 2-0.
On the opposite side of the bracket
Fnatic took on German side
Team ALTERNATE after wins against ESC Gaming and Lemondogs. The battle commenced on dust2, with fnatic starting on the generally easier terrorist side. At the start of the match Alternate looked as if they were able to put up a fight with the score at 5-3 in fnatic’s favour, but with fnatic on a roll it didn’t take long for them to start storm rolling over their enemy to take the first half 12-3. Second half saw the tables turned as the Germans quickly edged towards evening the scores but with just a few rounds needed for fnatic to take the win it didn’t take long for them to grasp the first map victory 16-12.
Second map saw the teams fight it out on nuke with it starting in a similar way to dust, with Alternate picking up the majority of their first half rounds during the beginning of the map.
fnatic once again took the first half lead at 11-4, and although alternate tried their hardest to bring the map back they were unable to do so once again albeit they had a commendable attempt. De_nuke finished with a 16-10 score line in favour of fnatic, forcing the Germans into the lower-bracket.
WinFakt and fnatic will now go head to head at 17:00CET in the upper final.
